With "Komische OpAR" and "BE Backstage", not only are characters, costumes, and locations brought to life, but also exciting insights into the stories of the people behind them, the plans for the future, and the reconstruction of the house are provided. Our mission in this project was to enhance the both app experiences with distinctive music and sound design to immerse users in the rich auditory landscape of the Komische Oper Berlin and Berliner Ensemble. The app features a wide range of sounds that bring the opera house to life. From the moment you launch the app, you're greeted with an intricate soundscape that reflects the vibrant atmosphere of the historical place. Whether you're exploring the grand foyer, the main stage, or the behind-the-scenes areas, each location is accompanied by a unique set of sounds that enhance the sense of presence and immersion.

 

To reflect the dual nature of the apps — heritage and innovation — we blended classical instrumentation with modern production techniques. The result is a layered auditory language that feels both timeless and contemporary. Each composition was meticulously mastered to ensure clarity across devices, from high-end headphones to built-in smartphone speakers.

This AR project marks a bold step forward for cultural institutions embracing digital transformation by extending the opera and theater experience into the mobile age.
