For over two decades, brand eins has stood apart in the German media landscape — not just as a business magazine, but as a platform for critical thinking, cultural reflection, and constructive journalism. Each issue explores a single theme in depth, from capital and labor to love and logistics, weaving together essays, interviews, and reportage with a distinct editorial voice and visual clarity.
In 2022, brand eins approached us with a new challenge: to translate the essence of their “Logistik” issue into a series of animated visual interpretations for social media. The goal was not to summarize the articles, but to reframe them — to create short, looping animations that could extend the magazine’s editorial presence into the digital sphere, while staying true to its tone and typographic rigor.
Our starting point was the essay “Könnte Volkswagen ohne China überleben?” by Wolf Lotter — a sharp, timely reflection on global interdependence and industrial vulnerability. Rather than illustrating the article literally, we developed a conceptual loop: a light flickering on and off along a stylized assembly line, evoking both the rhythm of production and the fragility of supply chains. The animation was designed in the visual language of brand eins — clean, typographic, and editorially restrained — allowing the metaphor to speak without distraction.
This project marked a new chapter in how brand eins engages with its audience. By extending the magazine’s content into motion, we helped create a bridge between print and digital, between long-form thought and short-form attention. The result is not just a visual asset, but a new way of thinking about journalism in motion — one that respects the intelligence of the viewer while inviting them to look again.
As brand eins continues to explore new formats and platforms, this collaboration sets a precedent for how thoughtful editorial content can live beyond the page — not by simplifying, but by reimagining.
